Disclaimer

Lone Vigil Press shares calm, practical ideas to help households get a little more ready, one small step at a time. This page explains how to use what you find here, on The Quiet Post and in the guides at The Outpost.

This site and its products share general information for educational purposes only. They are not medical, legal, financial, or professional safety advice. Every home and situation is different. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for any product, follow local laws and guidance from your local emergency officials, and use your own judgment. Lone Vigil Press and the author are not responsible for any loss, injury, or damage that results from using this information. In a life-threatening emergency, call 911.

General information only

Everything on this site and in our downloads is general information for learning and planning. It is not professional advice of any kind, including medical, legal, electrical, plumbing, gas, or automotive advice. Every home, vehicle, and family is different, and we can’t see your situation. When something needs an expert, please talk to one.

Follow your manuals, labels, and local rules

Your equipment’s manual and labels come first. If anything here doesn’t match what the manufacturer says, follow the manufacturer. The same goes for local codes, laws, and the rules of your landlord or homeowners association.

For repairs or installation work on electrical, plumbing, gas, heating, or vehicle systems, use a licensed professional. Our guides help you get organized and know what to ask. They aren’t a substitute for someone trained to do the work.

In an emergency

If someone is hurt, in danger, or you smell gas or suspect carbon monoxide, leave the area if you can and call 911 or your local emergency services. Don’t wait to look something up here first.

Your choices, your safety

You know your home and your household best, so you’re responsible for the choices you make and for keeping yourself and others safe. Please use anything you read or download here at your own risk and with good judgment.

To the fullest extent the law allows, Lone Vigil Press and the author are not liable for any injury, loss, or damage that comes from using, or relying on, the information on this site or in our products.

No guarantees

We do our best to keep things accurate and useful, but we can’t promise any particular result. Being prepared helps, and no plan covers everything. Guidance, products, and recommendations from other organizations also change over time, so some details here may become out of date. We may update this site and our downloads as we learn more.

Products and outside links

The Emergency Binder, Starter Workbook, and other guides at The Outpost are tools for organizing your own plans and information. What you write in them, and how you use them, is up to you. Our Refund Policy explains what happens if a file isn’t working right.

Some pages link to other websites, such as stores or public agencies. We share them because we think they may help, but we don’t control those sites and aren’t responsible for their content, products, or privacy practices. If we ever earn a commission from a link, we’ll say so near that link.

Questions

If something here is unclear, or you think we got something wrong, please email lonevigilpress@gmail.com. We read every message and are glad to hear from you.

One thing to try this week

Look up your local non-emergency numbers and write them on a list on the fridge: the police and fire non-emergency lines, your power, water, and gas companies, and poison control (1-800-222-1222 in the U.S.). Then show everyone at home where the list is. On a hard day, 911 is for emergencies, and this list is for everything else.
